Crosby’s New Deal

Posted: June 29, 2012 in Uncategorized

It was officially announced today that Sidney Crosby has recieved a contract extension of 12 years for $104.4 million, roughly $8.7 million a year.

This should not really come as a surprise to any Pittsburgh fans as he is the face of the franchise and concussions or not, he will not be going anywhere. This does have some meaning though, the timing of this was not random as top notch free agents like Ryan Suter or Zach Parise now know that Pittsburgh is interested in them and want all cap issues resolved so they can go after them. If I were a Pittsburgh fan I would be ready for July 1st. Remember to check back here for all updates on free agency or trades all summer long!

There was some big news today; it was announced that the Calgary Flames have acquired and signed defenceman Dennis Wideman from Washington in exchange for Jordan Henry and a 5th round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. This is an interesting move as Wideman is a  good offensive defenceman  but is making around 5 million a year on a 5 year contract which is a big cap hit. Wideman had a great start to his year but slowed down after the all-star break and all through out the playoffs, could that be because of Dale Hunter taking over as coach of Washington? We will find out next year in Calgary. What are your thoughts on this? Sure makes me wonder what Ryan Suter will receive; look out for more to come as July 1st approaches.

It’s almost time for the site to start up and we want to know what you would like to see posted here. If you could please take the time to fill out this poll letting us know what you want it will help a lot.

A boring day during the summer brought upon the idea of starting a blog, but not just any old blog, a hockey blog. It really is amazing what great ideas boredom can bring upon someone, it seems to always be the catalyst in making something or someone succesful. Myself, and the other editor here at Five Hole Grinders both share a compatible love for every aspect of the greatest sport on earth. This blog will cover everything you can think of; player/product reviews, general hockey talk, top 10’s and many other topics that we think our knowledge and love of hockey can entertain you with. It will follow a daily schedule to decide what is posted eventually but for now our hope is to just get it lifted off the ground and use viewers ideas to decide what comes next because what the viewers want is all the really matters for something like this to be successful. There will be a YouTube channel hooked up with this site in order to use every way possible to enhance the experience of anyone who visists here. If you’re reading this now please leave a comment below with any ideas you might have and what you personally want to see posted here, its our hope that this post will be something that we can look back on and laugh about because its the start of something amazing.
